Slip-Stitch Colorwork 101- Saturday, Jan 30, 1-4 pm via Zoom
The easygoing cousin of stranded colorwork, slip-stitch knitting is a fun and easy technique that brings more color into your work without the stranding or trapping of floats. We’ll knit up a workshop-debuting fingerless mitts pattern in Emma’s Yarn, discuss the different types of colorwork, how to read charts, mattress stitching, basic color theory, and finishing techniques.
Level: Advanced Beginner – no previous colorwork experience necessary
Materials:
2 Highly contrasting shades of DK weight yarn (yarn used is Emma’s Yarn Simply Spectacular DK)
Size US 3 (3.25) 16” circular knitting needles
Size US 5 (3.75mm) 16” circular knitting needles

Wonder Clips or small black office binder clips

Homework:
• With MC and US 3 (3.25) needles, Longtail CO 50 sts. Do not join into rnd – mitts are worked flat back and forth in rows.
• Knit 6 rows.
Fair Isle 101 – Sunday, Jan 31, 1-4 pm via Zoom
Freaked over Fair Isle? Curious about stranded colorwork techniques? Intimidated by multiple strands of yarn in multiple colors? Not sure how gauge works or how to trap those floats? This is the workshop for you! We’ll cover basic Fair Isle knitting techniques for English, Continental, and Combination knitters, tackle common issues, proper technique, color theory, how to trap floats, how to read charts, Fair Isle history, and setting good Fair Isle knitting habits. We’ll put these techniques into practice while working up the workshop-debuting Chastain Tam!
Level: Advanced Beginner – no previous colorwork experience necessary
Materials:
2 Highly contrasting shades of Sport weight (125 yds each color) (yarn recommended is Ewe So Sporty)
Size US 3 (3.25mm) 16” Circular Knitting Needles
Size US 4 (3.5mm) 16” Circular Knitting Needles

Homework:
With smaller circular needles and darker color (A) and German Twisted CO technique OR Longtail CO technique, CO 140 sts, join into round being careful not to twist, pm for bor.
Work [knit 1 in A, purl 1 in B] for 9 rounds.
Knit 1 round in A.
Switch to larger needles, knit 1 round in B.
