About Tanis

Tanis Gray picked up her first pair of needles at the age of 9 after watching both of her Grandmothers work magic with their crochet hooks and her mom with knitting needles. "It's in my blood," she simply states.

Quickly growing tired of making scarves, hats and mittens from other people's patterns, Tanis tackled her first sweater and started creating patterns of her own in both knit and crochet. Each February school vacation was spent at the local Yarn Shop gathering skills and yarn for new projects.

Tanis currently serves as the Yarn Coordinator for Soho Publishing, home to Vogue Knitting, Knit Simple, Knit.1, Crochet Today, Adorn, Cutting Edge and Sixth & Spring Books.

Tanis has studied under Shirley Paden and has collaborated with world-renowned designer Nicky Epstein. Her work has been featured in publications such as, Vogue Knitting On the Go Knitted Gifts, Crocheted Scarves, Crocheted Baby Blankets, Nicky Epstein's Never Felt Better, the Knit 101 Handbook, and Make It Your Own. Her designs have also been featured in Knit Simple, Knit.1, Adorn, Cutting Edge and Martha Stewart Living magazines.

Tanis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, Animation and Video from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). After graduating with Honors, she went to New York and worked for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, HBO, Focus Features, MTV and Hungry Man Productions, prior to joining the Soho Publishing team..

Tanis enjoys volunteering and has recently taught knitting classes at a women's shelter and led her knit group in the production of Snuggles for local animal shelters.

She currently resides in New Jersey with her husband, Roger, pug, Mercury and cat, Igby.
